Crack Joint Sealant
Ezefill Ezefill crack / joint filing compound comprises a two component reactive polyurethane system, which is manufactured with Japanese technology. The material sets to give a highly elastic, noncracking mass which can be used very effectively to fill and seal joints and cracks in all types of construction.
Salient Features
- High Elasticity: Ezefil is highly elastic and easily withstands the expansion and contraction of the substracte without cracking.
- High Movement Accommodation: Ezefil can be stretched to more than double its length without tearing and hence is excellent, for filling of joints where the movement is large.
- Excellent Abrasion Resistance: Ezefil can withstand a great deal of wear and tear, thus ensuring long lasting service.
- Excellent waterproofing properties: Ezefil provides an impermeable barrier to the seepage of water.
- Good Chemical Resistance: Ezefil has good resistance to mild acids, alkalies, oils, grease, etc.
Application
Small Cracks And Joints
- The Ezefil system consists of two chemical components to be mixed in 1 to 1.5 ratio by weight.
- Small cracks should be opened up and cleaned of all dirt and loose particles.
- The two components be opened up and cleaned of all dirt and loose particles.
- The two components are mixed in the specified ratio until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
- Mixing can be done with an electric paddle-type agitator or by hand using a stirring rod. Care should be taken to ensure that the sides and bottom of the mixing container are scraped during the mixing possible by adding operation. Cracks and joints can then be filled with the mixture. A spatula or putty knife may be used for this purpose. Thickening of the Ezefil mixture is white cement. One part by weight of a mixture of Ezefil 400 and Ezefil 500 is slowly mixed with upto 2 parts by weight of white cement, till a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Care must be taken not to dilute more than the specified ratio, as it would affect its elastic properties. Allow Ezefil to set overnight.
- Apply at least one coat of Ezecoat or Coloured Wallgard over it.
Deep Cracks And Horizontal Expansion Joints
- Deep cracks and horizontal joints should first be cleaned and an adhesive coat of Wallguard should be applied on all sides with a small brush. Allow to dry for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Expansion joints should be party filled with thermocol or compressible board. The top surface should be filled with the Ezefil mixure. Tool the joint by pressing a spatula or putty knife firmly against the mixture surface and moving along the length of the joint. This will help remove air bubbles and fill the joint properly. To prevent the knife from sticking to the material, the knife should be dipped in kerosene before using it for tooling. The outer surface of the sealant should be slightly concave in profile.
- If a clean joint is required, a masking tape can applied at the edges so that any over filled material falls on to the tape. Remove the tape immediately after application of the material is completed.
Consumption
- This depends mainly on the volume of the crack or joint being filled. The information given below will help estimate the requirement of Ezefil.
- Normally the ratio of width to depth of the joint is 2:1. The length of joint which can be filled per kg. of Ezefil/white cement mixture can be calculated from the following formula
